I recently bought a sewing machine, because I'm making mixed media wedding invitations (which has taken up about five hours a day for the past week). I'll post one when they've been sent out to our guests. I've wanted my own sewing machine since I learned how to sew from a fashion design class that I took at Virginia Tech.
I asked for a sewing machine one year for Christmas, and was sure that I was getting one from my mom. However, none of the boxes under the tree looked big enough to hold a sewing machine. Christmas morning rolled around and my mom thrust a present into my hands while grinning from ear to ear. I opened the box to reveal a tiny PINK sewing machine. I mean, I liked the color pink but come on. The sewing machine operated on batteries and looked like it was made for a child to use. I thought it was a joke and was extremely disappointed when I found out that it wasn't.
Anyways, now that I have my fabulous new sewing machine, I can make all kinds of projects. I found this photo gallery on the Martha Stewart website which has 30 summer sewing projects! I love the project below - waterproof book covers - because I love to read while lounging in and out of the pool.
